Which vendors name a market and not just a language

Four vendors in this register write at least one code with a region or script attached. One does it for every language but English; the other three do it once each. Every other declared code in the register is bare. As of 2026-09-12.

1Almost all the variant information in the register is in four cells

Across nine declared sets and a hundred and five codes, twenty-nine of them carry a subtag and twenty-six of those belong to one vendor. So the variant question is answered by one company as policy and by three companies once each.

The three single tags are all interesting. Two name Brazil for Portuguese and one names a writing system for Chinese, which are the two languages in this register where the question bites hardest.

2Naming a market rules others out

A tag is not simply more information. Declaring one country says the page follows that country conventions and implies nothing about the others, so a tagged set can be a narrower offer than a bare one of the same length.

That is why the register prints the form beside the count rather than ranking tagged sets above bare ones. Which a reader prefers depends on whether they want to be included or to be certain.

3Where the tags do not go

No vendor here declares European Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, Canadian French or a regional English. Where a market is named, it is the smaller of the two candidates in three of the four cases.

And no voice figure anywhere in the register names a variant of anything. The column where variants decide whether a release is usable contains no variant information at all.
