Named list: the disclosure a reader can act on
A named list is a published set of the actual languages. It is the only shape of disclosure a reader can check against their own market, and it is the shape this register treats as filling a cell rather than merely occupying it. As of 2026-09-22.

1Searchable beats large
A producer has one question: is my market in there. A list of thirty names answers it in a second. A count of three hundred does not answer it at all, and no increase in the number changes that.
So this register does not sort the voice column by size. A cell holding a set and a cell holding a number are different kinds of object, and printing them in one ranked column would suggest the larger number was the better disclosure.
2A list can be recounted, a headline cannot
Where a vendor prints a figure above a list and the two disagree, the list is the figure worth recording, because any reader can recount it and get the same answer. That happens more than once among the vendors read here.
It cuts both ways. One vendor here understates its own list; another overstates it in two different places on one page. In every case the list is quoted and the headline is recorded beside it.
3What a list still does not say
Which variant of each language. Which voices exist in it. Whether the quality is the same at the end of the list as at the top. And, for a table mixing languages and dialects, how much of the length is one language repeated.
None of that makes a list less valuable than a count. It means the best available disclosure in this category still leaves the casting question open, which is worth stating plainly rather than treating a long list as an answer.
